Disbarred Lawyer Allegedly in Court with Client Is Jailed; Chicago Case Is 2nd in 2 Months – News – ABA Journal

On Behalf of | Feb 23, 2011 | Uncategorized |

For the second time in less than two months, a non-lawyer in Chicago has been criminally charged for allegedly acting as an attorney in court. Darlene White-Yarber, 50, was disbarred in 1995. But Cook County authorities say she was nonetheless acting as a lawyer for a client in traffic court in Bridgeview on Monday, according to CBS News and WLS. When a judge asked her for her attorney identification card, she couldn’t produce it. She was then held in contempt of court and investigated before being charged criminally with impersonation. She is being held in lieu of $150,000 bond. The incident follows an earlier case against a man who apparently has never been a lawyer yet allegedly may have handled many court matters in the Chicago area. Tahir Malik reportedly has some experience with the legal system, however, as a convicted burglar. Earlier coverage:
